Samsung showcases flexible OLED display or used in smartphones next year
- Jan 11, 2019 -

On May 25th, Samsung was able to say "double happiness" in terms of technology. In addition to announcing the launch of a tablet equipped with an iris scanner in India, Samsung also demonstrated the latest smart phone OLED display.

It is worth noting that the flexible OLED display demonstrated by Samsung is different from the Galaxy S7 edge display – a flexible OLED display packaged in a fixed curved glass, which makes the latter more like a non-flexible OLED display. It is known that Samsung has been developing display screens for mobile devices that are completely flexible, flexible and distortable. Samsung may configure such displays in a smartphone that can be folded like a wallet in 2017.

In addition to the pictures in the smartphone patent application called "Galaxy X", Samsung has demonstrated its flexible display technology prototype, such as the display in the YOUM concept phone design that was later converted into Galaxy Note Edge. Samsung does not often show flexible screen technology, but the technology demonstrated has considerable potential.

phoneArena said that at the SID 2016 show in San Francisco, Samsung showed a full-HD resolution 5.7-inch OLED display with a thickness of only 0.01 inches (0.3 mm) - this number does not include the touch layer, and is fully Flexible. In the demonstration, the OLED screen was extracted from the film-like cassette device. We expect Samsung to be able to produce more of these displays – thanks to the recent huge investments to produce phones that are truly different from the past.

Although competitors are not sleeping, other companies are not as good at Samsung as flexible OLED screens. Recently, a Chinese company introduced a flexible graphene touch screen. Earlier this year, researchers at Queen's University in Canada presented ReFlex, a flexible smartphone prototype, with a 6-inch display with a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels produced by LG Display. Although Samsung may be the first company to sell flexible phones in the market, competitors will catch up quickly. I hope that flexible mobile phones can occupy the market.
