Segment LCD Advantages
- This type of LCD display is ideal for applications that are battery-powered or solar-powered.
- They require the lowest power to drive, an estimated 2uA per square centimeter. Glass-only displays (without a backlight and controller) require about 10% of the power needed for an LED backlight. In other words, a static display without a backlight will draw around 1mA, while the same display with an LED backlight will draw between 10mA and 25mA.
- Most displays can be driven at either 3.3V or 5V, as microprocessors can operate at both voltages. The 3.3V option is becoming more popular since two AA batteries can provide between 3.0V and 3.3V.
