According to relevant survey data, in the second quarter of 2018, the global penetration rate of full-screen display shipments to smartphone panel shipments reached 55%, compared with 42% in the previous quarter.
According to consulting firm Sigmaintell Consulting, from the perspective of suppliers, Samsung Display, Tianma Microelectronics, BOE and AU Optronics (AUO) are the four major suppliers of full-screen panels.
Driven by strong demand for high-end full-screen panels in the high-end smartphone segment, AMOLED and LTPS full-screen displays have relatively high penetration rates compared to amorphous silicon (a-Si) models.
Sigmaintell said that Tianma and AU Optronics have performed well recently due to the efforts to launch the LTPS full-screen panel.
In addition, the ratio of full-screen panels to all smartphone panel shipments is expected to reach 60% by the end of 2018 and 90% by 2020, while AMOLED and LTPS panels account for 90% of full-screen panel shipments. At the same time, full-screen panels will account for 65% of total shipments of amorphous silicon (a-Si) smartphones by 2020.
It is expected that there will be a surge in smartphone-free bangs full-screen displays in 2019, especially high-end smartphones, which in turn may drive the industry's demand for AMOLED screens.
