CLAP, a South Korean company that specializes in organic semiconductors, display materials and components, announced on June 28 that it had successfully localized phase difference films for OLED displays.
CLAP has a holistic approach to creating customized liquid crystal materials, synthesis technologies, optical simulations and membranes to respond to a wide range of technology needs, and the company is now forming partnerships with companies around the world.
OLED is a brightly coloured self-luminescent display technology that is increasingly being used in thin, flexible forms in products from a wide range of sectors, including TV, mobile, IT and automotive. However, the contrast of OLED displays degrades because the metal electrodes reflect bright light from the outside. Therefore, there is a need for a solution that can reduce the reflection ratio of OLED displays, and a phase difference film with reflection prevention function can play a role in this.
As a core component of OLED displays, the phase difference film is attached to the polarizer and supplied to OLED display panel manufacturers. The phase difference film market is closely related to the size of the OLED polarizer market. In terms of area, the market is expected to grow 165% from 17 million square meters in 2021 to 28 million square meters in 2025.
