Google will expand the use of its own semiconductors. Google has developed a semiconductor for smartphones that will be in its two flagship models due to hit the market this year. The semiconductor improves the level of artificial intelligence (AI) for processing images and sound. Google is on par with Apple in the smartphone operating system market, and the two companies are expected to further enhance their technological advantages in the mobile phone sector as they follow Apple in semiconductor development.
Google has developed a semiconductor using the design technology of ARM Holdings, a British company. It is expected that it will combine the functions of CPU and image processing semiconductor and entrust the production to an Asian contract manufacturer.
In 2016, Google launched its own smartphone brand "Pixel" and has been using AI's image processing capabilities as a selling point. Google semiconductor America qualcomm have been used in the past, Google senior vice President Rick oster ROM (Rick Osterloh) in Japanese economic news (Chinese version: the nikkei Chinese website), and other media interview to explain the causes from the research of semiconductor, "under the background of AI used more and more, just on semiconductor market is unable to meet demand".
New semiconductors are best suited for AI and machine learning, one of AI's core technologies. It is reported that not only can reduce the power consumption, but also can process information at high speed. Specifically, Google is using the semiconductor for image and sound processing in an effort to catch up with Apple and Samsung, which are leading the way in high-end phones.
