Large-size LCD Panels Are Expected To Ship 887 Million Units This Year, Rising To 918 Million Units in 2026

Recently, according to foreign media reports, although smartphones have generally switched to OLED panels with better display performance, and large-size devices such as tablets and TVS are gradually adopting OLED panels, there is still a strong demand for LCD panels, especially in the large-size (9 inches and above) LCD panels.

A research institute recently estimated that the shipment of LCD panels of 9 inches or larger will reach 887 million units this year and increase to 918 million units in 2026, with a compound annual growth rate of 0.69 percent from 2021 to 2026.

Large LCD panels of 9 inches and above are mainly used in five fields: TV, laptop, desktop monitor, tablet PC, interactive whiteboard and car monitor.

Shipments of large-size LCD panels will grow in the coming years, driven by an increase in the average size of TVS, laptops, monitors and interactive whiteboards, pulling overall shipments up, the research firm said.

Increased demand for larger LCD panels has led many manufacturers to increase output and south Korean manufacturers that had planned to exit the LCD panel market have extended production times, boosting global LCD panel output. It expects global production of large-size LCD panels to grow 8.5 percent year-on-year this year and 9.3 percent next year, with growth expected to slow only in 2023 as demand saturates.
