Recently, LG Display Company announced that as more and more TV manufacturers joined the OLED camp, the sales volume of OLED TV panels in the first half of 2018 has more than doubled in the first half of 2017! In the past few years, in the overall TV market of more than 200 million units per year, the proportion of TVs using OLED panels is very small, limited to some high-end products. However, since last year, in addition to its rapid expansion in the high-end market, OLED TVs have also begun to enter the mid-market, including LG.
LG Display currently provides OLED panels for foreign TV manufacturers such as LG, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, and Lowe. In the first half of 2018, the sales volume of 1.3 million units was more than twice that of the first half of 2017. In addition, LG Display also believes that the sales of OLED TV panels will reach 2.9 million units in 2018. After the 8.5-generation plant in Guangzhou was put into production in the second half of 2019, LG expects its production capacity to double again, from the current 70,000 substrates per month (re-divided into smaller panels) to 130,000 pieces per month. .
Not only that, but LG Display also announced that it will use the 10.5-generation production line being built in Paju City to manufacture OLED panels. If this is done, the capacity of large-size OLED TV panels will be further enhanced!
Editor's point of view: Compared with traditional LCD panels, OLED panels have an absolute advantage in image quality, and can also promote the birth of new TVs such as “wallpaper TV”, because OLED panels can be “transparent, flexible and curable”. With the substantial increase in the production capacity of OLED panels, it is foreseeable that the price of OLED TVs will continue to decline, and another story of “When the old Wang Xietang swallowed into the homes of ordinary people” is being staged.
