This week at the Information Display Society 2021 (SID), LG Display showed off its latest Display technology, which includes scrollable, bendable and transparent OLED panels in different sizes. These screen components can be used in a variety of products, from laptop computers and televisions to car displays. A new set of trademark applications from the South Korean Trademark Office show that LG Display has more new OLED technology in the works, possibly involving a special panel.
On May 3, 2021, LG Display filed six trademark applications with the Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). Contents include: Plate, OLED Plate, Smart Plate, Plate Big, Plate Fit and One Cord OLED.
From the description, we can see that this is a new type of OLED panel, which is mainly used in the following types of products: TV; Display; Laptop computer; Smartphones.
Although "smart phone" is also mentioned, it appears to have been excluded from the list of trademarks because the company has stopped making LG smartphones. LG The Plate seems to be The name that fits best with The TV screen. However, LG may be planning to use the new panels in different electronics.
The names "Plate Big" and "Plate Fit" suggest that OLED screens will be available in different sizes. The name Smart OLED Plate appears to refer to a Smart OLED panel. However, all we have so far is a name and the details are still unknown. Also of note is the name "One Cord OLED ", which suggests that only One cable is required to Connect the screen, which may be similar to Samsung's One Connect solution.
It's still unclear when we'll hear more from LG's new panel. Since the trademark application was filed by the display division, it's not hard to imagine that it will take some time before LG Electronics starts using these new OLED panels.
