Global consumer demand for PCs for business, daily consumption and education continued into the first quarter, with new demand from the new normal driving strong shipments growth, IDC said in a research report. At the same time, the average selling price of PCs has risen, driven by demand for high-performance laptops for games and businesses, as well as for touch-screen computers in education.
"We believe there has been a fundamental shift in the PC market that will lead to a more positive outlook for the next few years." "Regardless of how COVID-19 may affect the course of international communication, all three market segments -- enterprise, education, and consumer -- are facing greater than expected demand," IDC researchers said. Continued shortages of PC components are likely to be the most talked about topic in 2021." In fact, in March IDC forecast a full-year 2021 outlook for the PC market, predicting that shipments would rise 18.2% to 357.4 million units this year, a sharp change from previous forecasts. IDC believes the industry outlook is far stronger than it has been historically.
