The contractor accidentally cut off the 161kV underground cable of Taiwan Power Co., Ltd., during the construction of the plant in Nanke Park, Taiwan Province yesterday (14). As a result, the Nanko-Sanfu line jumped, resulting in the power failure of P7 of TSMC 14B plant. Besides, the C area of Nanke includes Innolac, Cainjing, Corning, UMC, Nanao, etc. Covering the panel, semiconductor field of large factories instantaneous power voltage drop about 50%.
The P7 of TSMC Nanko 14 plant was affected by the power outage, and the production of 40/45 nanometers and other mature manufacturing processes were affected. At least thousands to tens of thousands of wafers faced scrap, and the most serious impact was over 30,000 to 40,000 wafer production, with the loss of more than NT $1 billion.
TSMC said that after the incident, there were no safety concerns or evacuations in the plant, and the power supply was restored to normal yesterday evening, but the actual impact is still to be clarified.
According to industry insiders, after the incident, most of the P7 machines of TSMC's Nanco 14 plant started the continuous power system immediately, but the power failed to go out completely, and the power supply was restored to normal yesterday evening. However, the CIS image sensing chips and automotive power management chips produced in the plant are in short supply at present. Although the production line of TSMC will resume soon, But the restart will extend the chips' delivery time, which is expected to be extended by at least a quarter after TSMC reshuffles production lines, an impact far greater than the loss of business disruption.
Industry insiders pointed out that the power and voltage of the production line must be maintained stable. If the voltage drops suddenly, it may cause damage to the machine and affect the production. However, the impact is much less than the sudden stop/power outage, and there is no huge repair work.
Innolux and Corning are important panel related companies, UMC and Nanmao are wafer foundry and closed testing plants. When there is a large shortage of panels and semiconductors, the market is highly concerned about the spread of these manufacturers and worries about tighter supply.
In response to yesterday's power accident, Innolux pointed out that important production equipment are equipped with continuous power system protection, and there are standby generators, which have little impact on production. Color crystal statement system said last night, do not know the South Branch plant situation.
Corning said plant equipment at the Tainan plant was temporarily affected by pressure drops, but production quickly resumed, and plant operations and glass delivery plans to customers remained normal.
UMC said the incident wasn't affected. Nanmao admitted that there was a slight pressure drop in the South Branch factory area, but it did not affect production.
The South Branch Administration said that the South Branch Park at 11:06 am yesterday, because the factory area of the park factory construction for the vertical well riveting operation, accidentally damaged the power lines of Taiwan Power, causing the line to jump.
The NSA pointed out that the voltage drop accident affected TSMC and other manufacturers in the Tainan park. Currently, except for P7 of TSMC 14B plant, which used emergency generators to cope with the plant's power supply, the other manufacturers of power voltage drop normally supplied power and the machines were back on line. In addition, the new construction site in the park has been stopped.
As for the accident caused by the construction of the nanke plant, acer said last night that the construction scope of the new nanke plant was based on the information provided by taipower, and the responsibility has yet to be clarified. If the investigation confirms any negligence in the construction, the contractor will be liable for compensation according to the contract.
