According to Korean media THELEC, the industry revealed on November 28 that the t5 production line built by TCL China Star Optoelectronics in Wuhan has delayed the delivery of some equipment. Korean display equipment companies are expected to report their performance next year.
The t5 project is to expand the production of the 6th generation of new semiconductor display devices in the t3 project, with a total investment of 15 billion yuan. On the basis of the existing capacity of 55,000 pieces/month in the t3 project, a new capacity of 45,000 pieces will be added. The t5 is aimed at high-end IT products, mobile devices and in-car displays. On August 26th this year, the first exposure machine equipment of the project was moved in, marking the expansion project officially from the plant construction to the equipment installation and commissioning stage.
At present, TCL China Star Optoelectronics has placed orders for stage 1-1 and 1-2 equipment, but delayed the delivery date of part of the equipment for stage 1-2. Investment in the second phase of the Micro LED backplane has been postponed indefinitely.
In fact, many Korean companies have extended the expiration date of their equipment supply contracts. In September this year, a Korean equipment company extended a 17.7 billion won contract with TCL Hwaxing without disclosing a new termination date. The company said: "The customer requested to change the delivery time, part of the delivery time has been completed, is negotiating with the customer the final delivery installment schedule, will be published after the confirmation." Another company postponed the termination of a contract worth 14.6 billion won from November 30 to December next year. The company explained, This is a correction based on a change in the delivery schedule. Apart from the two companies, other companies are reportedly reviewing the supply schedule of TCL Huaxing equipment.
The report said TCL China Star delayed the introduction of some t5 equipment, possibly because of the deteriorating conditions of the LCD industry. As TCL Hwaseong has made such a move, the time for Korean display companies to report their performance will be delayed until next year.
