Samsung is expected to take up slightly more than 70 percent of the OLED market for the recently launched iPhone14 series by the end of this year. LG Display's market share is expected to be 20 percent and boe's 5 percent. By the end of the year, an estimated 90 million iPhone14 units had been shipped.
According to industry sources, the number of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) units shipped for iPhone14 series will reach 120 million by the end of this year. Samsung Display is estimated to have sold around 80 million units, or just over 70 percent. LG Display is expected to account for 20 million units, and BOE is expected to account for 5 million to 6 million units, or about 5 percent.
The iPhone14 series comes in four models, including the 6.1-inch regular and 6.7-inch Plus models that use low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistors (TFT), and the 6.1-inch Pro and 6.7-inch Pro Max models that use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) TFT. Samsung Display supplies all models, LG Display supplies 6.1-inch LTPS and 6.7-inch LTPO Pro Max models, and BOE supplies 6.1-inch LTPS OLED models.
By the end of this year, Samsung Display is expected to produce 80 million OLED units for the iPhone14, while LTPO TFT's 6.1-inch OLED and 6.7-inch Pro max are expected to produce 60 million OLED units, an increase of 10 million units from the original forecast.
LG Display is expected to sell 20 million OLED models of the iPhone14 series by the end of this year. The average OLED model will be up to 20 million units, while the Pro max OLED model is estimated to be 5 million to 7 million units. With LG Display s production capacity and hundreds of thousands of MAX units, which were conditionally approved for production last month, the number of Max units is expected to reach 7 million units.
Boe expects iPhone14 OLED shipments of 5 million to 6 million units. Boe can expect to expand iPhone14 OLED sales this year if overall demand for the iPhone14 series is strong and Samsung Display needs to focus on LTPO models.
Total shipments of the iPhone14 series are expected to reach 90 million units by the end of this year. In general, panel volume is larger than finished product shipments because it reflects production and inventory.
Apple said on its website on Tuesday (local time) that differences in the production of high-end models of the iPhone14 series at the Foxconn plant in Zhengzhou, China could be a variable in the number of finished products and panel shipments. CNN reported on Apple's website on Tuesday that the delivery of the iPhone14 Pro and Pro Max in the U.S. will take longer than Christmas, which could adversely affect Apple's sales in the October-December quarter.
