LG Will Launch 88-inch 8K OLED TV

LG Electronics has announced that it will launch an 88-inch 8K OLED TV at the upcoming International Consumer Electronics Show (IFA) in Berlin, and said it will help expand the company's influence in the global high-end TV market.

8K means that the screen has a resolution of 7,680*4,320, or up to about 33 million pixels. Its performance far exceeds the 4K technology known as Ultra HD with a resolution of 3,840*2,160 and approximately 8 million pixels.

LG Electronics began mass production of OLED TVs in 2013. OLED TVs have been recognized as the best TVs to offer TVs with excellent contrast. LG Electronics said its 8K TV with 33 million pixel resolution will help LG consolidate its position in the OLED TV industry.

Although the size of the 8K TV market is estimated to be only 60,000 units this year, it is expected to expand to 5.3 million units in 2022. In addition, the size of the OLED TV market is expected to reach 2.5 million units this year, and is expected to grow to 9.35 million units by 2022.
