Samsung, BOE And Tianma Share Nearly 71% Of The Global Smartphone Display Panel Market

The global smartphone Display panel market generated $21 billion in revenue in the first half of 2021, according to a recent research report titled "Q2 2021 Smartphone Display Panel Market Share: Samsung Display Remains Number one," released by Strategy Analytics' Mobile Component Technology (HCT) service. Samsung Display (48 percent), BOE (15 percent) and Tianma Microelectronics (8 percent) saw double-digit revenue growth in the smartphone Display panel market. The top three vendors accounted for nearly 71 percent of the total revenue share of the global smartphone display panel market.

"The growth of the smartphone display panel market is driven by the need of handset manufacturers to expand OLED panel applications on mid - and high-end smartphones," said Jeffrey Mathews, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics. Demand is also being driven by a scramble to secure inventory of display panels to ease supply challenges. In the first half of 2021, Chinese display panel suppliers, especially BOE, Tianma Microelectronics and TCL CSOT, secured a large number of OLED customer orders in the Chinese smartphone OEM supply chain."

"We predict that seasonal demand for high-end display technologies, particularly foldable screens, will drive further growth in the market," said Stephen Entwistle, vice president of Strategy Analytics' strategic technology practice. However, the continued shortage of display driver components will affect key product offerings in the smartphone display panel market."
