The Most Stringent OLED Display Standards Ever Announced: Pure Black

VESA(Video Electronics Standards Association) today announced a new high-end display standard, DisplayHDR True Black 600, which is the same as the previous 500/400 level for OLED, microLED and other self-luminous displays, but with more stringent requirements.

The DisplayHDR True Black standard, which was born in early 2019, has a larger dynamic range than standards such as DisplayHDR 1000 for LCD screens and defines a deeper Black standard.

The DisplayHDR True Black standard originally had two levels of 400 and 500, but the core requirements of the latest level 600 include:

1, peak brightness 600cd/m2.

2, the minimum blackness 0.0005 CD /m2, which is also the industry standard colorimeter can effectively measure the lowest level.

3. The brightness is 20% higher than that of tier 500, while maintaining the same excellent blackness and color, the screen is significantly brighter.

4. The dynamic range of DisplayHDR 1000 can be expanded up to 50 times, and the response time (Rise time) can be accelerated up to 4 times.

In addition, Microsoft and Asus almost simultaneously announced that the VivoBook Pro 14, VivoBook Pro 14X, and VivoBook 15 notebooks had become the first to be certified to the DisplayHDR True Black 600 standard.
