The demand-centered business cycle has driven the rapid development of the display industry. On the other hand, the application of flexible OLED technology in mobile phones, laptops and other fields is also accelerating. At the beginning of 2022, Red Star News talked with Qiu Haijun, senior vice president and co-CHIEF technology officer of BOE, about the development of BOE in the field of flexible OLED, and made a New Year's outlook for 2022.
Redstar news: With the large-scale construction of new digital infrastructure, the integrated application of 5G, artificial intelligence, blockchain and other new technologies is deepening. Looking ahead to 2022, what will be the development trend of your industry?
Hai-jun qiu: at present, the global economy is facing another revolution of science and technology, with the aid of 5 g communications, artificial intelligence, the development of the Internet and other new technology, information industry development has skyrocketed, downstream terminal consumer electronic products (mobile phones, tablets, etc.), smart car multimedia display devices, intelligent robot, such as continuous iteration, helps drive the rapid development of flexible displays the whole industrial chain.
Driven by factors such as the rapid development of smart phones and the growing demand for TV size, the global display industry is growing. In the future, 90 percent of web traffic will be video, and display will play an integral role. The development of 5G, artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, biometrics and other new technologies will further drive the sustained growth of the new display industry. AMOLED flexible display has strong appeal in the high-end market due to its characteristics of self-illumination, bendability, cribability, high technology integration and high added value. With rapid development in recent years, the proportion of AMOLED used in smart phones is gradually increasing. Data from market research agency Omdia shows that the usage of OLED display modules will exceed 500 million in 2021 and 600 million (629-676 million) in 2022, with an annual growth rate of more than 20%.
With the continuous progress of AMOLED technology and process level, as well as the further determination and maturity of the process route, it is expected that AMOLED will gradually penetrate into the display fields such as car screen, tablet computer and notebook computer in the next few years. In particular, under the national policy of "carbon neutrality" and "carbon peak", the new energy vehicle industry is expected to develop rapidly. Under the transformation of the Internet of Things, AMOLED flexible screens can just meet the functional application requirements of on-board screens.
Red Star News: At the beginning of the New Year, everyone is setting flags for the year. What are your goals for this year?
Qiu Haijun: I have two wishes for 2022. One is that the epidemic will pass as soon as possible. The other is to hope that BOE's multi-form flexible screen products can be introduced into people's life faster, such as our sliding screen, folding notebook, under-screen camera and so on.
