On October 10, Samsung and LG Display will mass-produce OLeds for Apple's iPad from 2024. OLED shipments for IT are expected to grow at an average annual rate of 41% to reach 31 million units by 2027.
According to UBI Research's recently released OLED Technology and Industry Trend Analysis Report for IT Technology, OLED shipments for tablets, laptops and displays are expected to reach 31 million units in 2027, with an average annual growth rate of 41%.
The forecast is based on Samsung Display's 5.5-generation and 6th-generation product lines, as well as the 8.5-generation QD-OLED production line, the 8.6-generation (2290x2620mm) IT OLED production line, and the 6th-generation OLED production line of LG Display, BOE and Vicigna.
Compared with smartphones and TVS, OLeds for IT products have not received much attention before, but the increased demand for IT products due to the epidemic and the news that Apple has configured OLED for IT have begun to attract a lot of attention.
In the past, Samsung Display mass-produced a small amount of OLED for IT in some Chinese companies, starting from 2024, Samsung Display and LG Display plan to mass-produce Apple's iPad version of OLED in their own 6th generation line, BOE also plans to mass-produce OLED for IT in the B12 line.
In addition, Samsung Display decided to invest in its 8.6-generation OLED product line for IT earlier this year, and is expected to begin mass production of various IT products such as laptops from the first half of 2026. It is said that after LG Display solves the capital and BOE solves the customer certainty problem, it will also invest in the 8.6-generation production line as soon as possible, and Vizino is also holding meetings with major equipment companies to invest in the 8.6-generation production line.
An analyst at UBI Research said, "If the demand for OLED from manufacturers increases in the future and panel manufacturers invest in the 8.6th-generation product line, then the IT market is expected to become the new high value-added market for OLED after the smartphone market."
