Sources Said Samsung System LSI Will Get More OLED Display Driver Chip Production Capacity From UMC Next Year

According to foreign media reports, Samsung's System LSI business unit plans to acquire more OLED display driver chip production capacity from UMC next year as demand for the product is high among its major customers, according to sources.

According to foreign media reports, OLED display driver chips will not only be used in mid-to-high-end mobile phones, but will also penetrate more applications such as pens and TVS.

At present, there are not many manufacturers in the world that can produce OLED display driver chips, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., LTD., Samsung Electronics Co., UMC, Grofand etc.

In June 2021, the research institute said OLED display driver chips are currently mainly manufactured using 40nm and 28nm processes.

Today, foreign media reported that UMC has a 12-inch wafer production line that produces chips based on the 28nm process.

In addition to OLED display driver chips, UMC also makes CMOS image sensors for Samsung. In April last year, foreign media reported that Samsung and UMC had signed a contract manufacturing agreement for image sensors.

In March, industry chain sources revealed that UMC and Samsung had agreed to a higher contract offer for a new long-term contract.
